GROSSE POINTE WOODS — Thanks to city, foundation and community support, Ghesquiere Park in Grosse Pointe Woods has some new attractions for visitors of all ages.

TROY — At its meeting Aug. 12, the Troy Planning Commission unanimously approved a preliminary site plan for the Wesley Park project around Rochester Road and Shallowdale Drive.

STERLING HEIGHTS — The Sterling Heights City Council has voted to make improvements at one of the city’s parks.

TROY — The Troy City Council unanimously approved a $250,000 grant agreement with Oakland County Parks Aug. 11, part of plans for an inclusive play area at Boulan Park.

ROYAL OAK — A new playground structure at Red Run Park has been approved in a unanimous vote by the Royal Oak City Commission Aug. 11. 

FARMINGTON — Shiawassee Park in Farmington welcomed Michigan’s first Fitness Court featuring a studio at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 12.

TROY — The Oakland County Parks are waiting on the Michigan legislature to approve a $2.17 million grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund that will pay for the county’s acquisition of Turtle Woods Nature Preserve.

BIRMINGHAM — The next playground up for improvements is Poppleton Park, at 485 Rivenoak St., Birmingham.

EASTPOINTE — People who enjoy the Mi Dog Park in Eastpointe will have to continue to pay annual fees to use the park after the City Council voted to move the damaged fob system to a cloud-based system.

ROCHESTER — A trail is in the works that will soon connect Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve, Scott Street Park, the Paint Creek Trail and Rochester Municipal Park.

EASTPOINTE — Eastpointe is moving forward with plans for a splash pad at Kennedy Park, 24517 Schroeder Ave.

TROY — The Troy City Council considered bid specifications and budget amendments related to habitat improvement efforts for the Sprague Drain and Firefighters Park during their June 9 meeting.

TROY — The Troy City Council unanimously approved a request to exchange city parcels for a privately-owned parcel that could be used for an additional part of the Troy Trail route during its May 19 meeting.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — In a 6-0 vote at their meeting on May 19, members of the St. Clair Shores City Council approved the receipt of a donation from the Shorewood Kiwanis to create more pickleball courts within the city.

ROSEVILLE — City officials wearing hard hats broke ground on a splash pad at Rotary Park May 27.

BIRMINGHAM — Thanks to the funds from a $11.25 million parks and recreation bond over 70% of voters approved in 2020, the city of Birmingham has been able to focus on improving some of the community’s playgrounds. The city is currently in the process of developing plans for the playgrounds at Pumphouse Park and West Lincoln Well Park.

MADISON HEIGHTS — One of the fastest growing sports in the United States now has some prime real estate in Madison Heights.

TROY — A contract for the purchase and installation of a play structure and associated amenities for Boulan Park was unanimously approved by Troy City Council members at a council meeting April 21. A budget amendment associated with the item was also approved.

TROY — Troy City Council approved multiple contracts and a budget amendment for the construction of pickleball courts at Firefighters Park at a meeting April 7.

ROYAL OAK — Royal Oak is upping its game in the nature department with some updates to the Fred A. Erb Arboretum, located at the southeast corner of Lexington Boulevard and Marais Avenue, that will be unveiled in a special ceremony April 24.
