NOVI — A local mental health services provider continued its holiday tradition of helping people in need.

Novi-based CNS Healthcare gave away about 2,500 turkeys during the ninth year of its annual turkey giveaway.

“We think just being able to celebrate the holidays and have that moment is so important,” said Cara Johnson, marketing and outreach manager at CNS Healthcare.

The turkeys were purchased by the company, Johnson said. Employees donated their time to help distribute them at three different locations in late November.

In addition to the turkey giveaway, the company has also given away almost 600 coats and over 1,000 hats, gloves, scarves and other things to keep people warm, Johnson said. The company also selects kids who are receiving services and donates presents to them.

“We think it’s so important that kids, especially, are supported during the holidays and get to feel the very magical energy of the holidays,” Johnson said.

The hats, coats, gloves and scarves are purchased brand new using grant dollars through an organization called Warm Coats.

The giveaways are done each year to help spread joy during the holiday season with the people whom CNS Healthcare serves, Johnson said.

“We are a nonprofit organization, but we feel like we can’t just do business in the community,” Johnson said. “We need to be a part of the community.”
