SOUTHFIELD/LATHRUP VILLAGE — The Southfield Fire Department had a busy night as it battled multiple fires and downed wires July 7-8.

According to a Facebook post from the Southfield Fire Department, emergency crews were dispatched to a home in the 19000 block of Melrose Avenue on a report of a house fire around 7:30 p.m.

When crews arrived, the post said, there was visible smoke coming from the home, along with a working fire and downed power lines in the front yard.

Shortly after 1 a.m. July 8, crews were dispatched to a multiunit commercial building in the 27000 block of Southfield Road for a fire.

Fire officials said multiple teams worked on scene for multiple hours to extinguish the fire, and DTE was called to the scene to disconnect power to the building.

The cause of that fire is currently under investigation, officials said.

Southfield Fire Chief Johnny Menifee did not return a request for comment by press time.
