C & G Newspapers Staff Writer Kevin Bunch is one of 10 journalists nationwide selected for the University of Rhode Island’s Metcalf Institute for Marine & Environmental Reporting’s 17th annual Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists. Bunch writes about Eastpointe and Roseville for the Eastsider, and he has carved out a niche as C & G Newspapers’ science writer.

During a week in June, Bunch will learn about fundamentals of scientific research and issues with coastal ecosystems, which will help him cover a wide range of issues affecting local rivers and lakes.

“I’m very excited to take the lessons from this fellowship and apply them to my future reporting about the Great Lakes and the issues we face around metro Detroit,” Bunch said.

Some of the other journalists selected for this fellowship include an Associated Press correspondent, a Newsweek senior editor and an Oregonian reporter.
