A barricaded gunman situation in Rochester Hills came to a close the morning of May 6.

At around 8:15 a.m. May 6, Rochester Community Schools Superintendent Robert Shaner sent an email to parents saying that the district was notified of a situation that occurred earlier in the morning near Hart Middle School and Stoney Creek High School involving a barricaded gunman. The incident was reportedly related to a domestic dispute.

“Law enforcement were on the scene, and the situation has ended,” Shaner said in the email.

Shaner said the safety of the school community is always the district’s top priority.

“Children were on their way to school at the time of the incident and may have seen first responders at the scene,”

Shaner said counselors and support staff are readily available to assist students who may have questions or concerns. Families were encouraged to reach out to their building administrator or use the “Talk to Us” feature on the district website.
