NOVI — Over 250 people attended the Novi Educational Foundation’s annual Green Gala Fundraiser April 15 at Suburban Collection Showplace. The event, which was presented by Feldman Automotive, netted just over $56,000 for the foundation.

NOVI — The Novi Community School District was represented by four teams at the robotics world  competition this month. The teams included two middle school teams and two high school teams — Frog Force and the new and less-well-known Automated Amphibians.

DETROIT — A leader of a national drug ring and money laundering scheme will serve a long term in prison after the Universal Product Code on a Sony PlayStation box led federal agents to make a bust in Novi.

ROCHESTER — Downtown Rochester has added a new summer event to its lineup, and organizers are looking for artisan vendors, makers and handmade crafters to help make it a success.

ROCHESTER HILLS —  Three separate threats to local schools were investigated recently. Deputies received information of a school threat from the parent of a student at 6:41 p.m. April 3 who told police there was a Snapchat circulating indicating that a ninth-grade student was “going to shoot up the school” on April 4.

ROCHESTER — The best of southeast Michigan’s growing season is returning to downtown Rochester. Now in its 24th season, the Downtown Rochester Farmers Market will open May 6 at the corner of East Third and Water streets, just one block east of Main Street.

SOUTHFIELD — On Thursday, March 30, six members of the Red Rose Rescue, a coalition of pro-life people, were sentenced for misdemeanor charges, including trespassing, resisting/obstructing a police officer and disorderly conduct, following an incident at Northland Family Planning Center’s Southfield location.

SOUTHFIELD — Umoja is the Swahili word for “unity,” a meaning that Umoja Fine Arts’ owner and curator Ian Grant said he is committed to upholding. The Grant family opened Umoja in 1996 with the ambition of “displaying American life in a positive form, and preserving and recording the historical accounts in graphic form.”

SOUTHFIELD — Back in November of 2022, 22,030 voters in the Southfield Public Schools district said “yes” to a $345 million capital facilities bond proposal on the ballot.
