BIRMINGHAM — During a recent Birmingham City Commission meeting, the commission passed a resolution directing the Engineering Department to proceed with the final design of the Westwood, Raynale and Oak Street project to include sewer and water improvements.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — The candidates who won their respective state and county primary races Aug. 2 are now preparing their campaigns for the general election Nov. 8.

ROYAL OAK — On Aug. 2, Royal Oak voters in the city’s 24 precincts passed a millage proposal for the Royal Oak Public Library with 71.75% — or 11,993 votes — in favor and 28.25% — or 4,722 votes — against, according to unofficial election results posted by the Oakland County Elections Division.

ROYAL OAK/CLAWSON — In the Aug. 2 primary election, voters in Royal Oak and Clawson cemented which Democratic and Republican candidates in local, state and federal races will go head to head in the November election and approved a millage for the Royal Oak Public Library.

FRASER — On Aug. 2, Fraser residents voted to approve a new millage supporting the Fraser Public Library. It will replace a previous millage that has remained unchanged since 1963.

FRASER — The Fraser Public Library is taking patrons on a trip under the sea — without having to leave the library.

EASTPOINTE/ST. CLAIR SHORES — Chris Causley stood in his garage in St. Clair Shores on a warm August afternoon, surrounded by an assortment of military vehicles in various stages of repair. His most recent acquisition, three Clark Kat Model 30 tugs with chipped orange paint that he paid for out of his own pocket, were parked just inside the door.

EASTPOINTE/ROSEVILLE — At first, 2-year-old Tyler Lombardo was apprehensive about meeting Roseville police K-9 Chase. He hid behind his mother, but after some words of encouragement from Roseville Police Detective Brain Dobrzycki, who held the leash, the boy approached the dog and began stroking its fur.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — A public safety millage renewal in Bloomfield Township, which also includes a millage increase, got the green light from voters Aug. 2.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS/BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — Two properties in the Bloomfield area are among 14 historic Michigan properties recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — The Shelby Township Police Department is searching for a suspect who broke into a party store in Shelby Township.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A local activist believes he was wrongly arrested and charged for exercising his right to protest in Shelby Township in 2020. Two years later, the claim is headed to federal court.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A former Macomb County priest was sentenced to prison July 26 on two of three counts that charged him with sexually assaulting a teenage parishioner in the 1980s.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — In the primary election Aug. 2, Sylvia Grot won the Republican nomination for the 3rd District of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners, prevailing by 40 votes over current Commissioner Jeff Farrington and Grant G. Golasa.

WOODS — Police were seeking the public’s help at press time to identify a man who is said to have robbed the Flagstar Bank at 19733 Mack Ave. in Grosse Pointe Woods at around 9:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5 — shortly after the branch opened for business.

EASTPOINTE — An Eastpointe man who police said escaped while being transported hours after his arraignment in the 38th District Court has been apprehended.

EASTPOINTE/ROSEVILLE — In a state Senate primary that featured two well-known Eastpointe politicians Aug. 2, current Macomb County Commissioner Veronica Klinefelt won the Democratic Party nomination over current Eastpointe Mayor Monique Owens.
