Chippewa Valley’s girls swimming and diving team won its third straight Macomb County championship Oct. 6 at Macomb L’Anse Creuse North.
The Big Reds scored 307 points through 12 events against the best competition the county has to offer.
“That competition brings out the best out of them,” Chippewa coach Tony Grice said. “It definitely makes it exciting, and it pushes them to do even more.

FRASER – Macomb L’Anse Creuse North is back in the state football playoffs for the first time since 2007 and just the second time in program history after the Crusaders edged Fraser High 18-17 Oct. 12 on the road.
The win was LCN’s sixth of the season, automatically qualifying them for the postseason, which begins in two weeks.
“That’s the biggest thing we preached – playoffs,” LCN coach Anthony Kiner said. “It’s pretty special ground we’re on.”

CLINTON TOWNSHIP – Few things can pick a team back up after a deflating loss than a game against a rival.
And that’s exactly what the Big Reds are preparing to do following a 24-7 loss to Utica Stevenson Oct. 5.
The Big Reds were looking to lock up a playoff berth on homecoming night and to remain in the hunt for the Macomb Area Conference Red Division title. Instead, they were forced to settle for a loss, falling to 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in the division.
And everybody knows what’s next.

At the halfway point of the Macomb Area Conference Blue Division season, Utica Eisenhower’s volleyball team was in unfamiliar territory.
First place.
For the past several years, the Eagles have routinely found themselves in the middle of the division. But things are different this season, and the team is hoping things stay that way.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP – Utica Stevenson’s football team punched its ticket to the state playoffs after its sixth win of the season, a 24-7 decision Oct. 5 against at Chippewa Valley.
Amidst an on and off again downpour, the Titans controlled most of the game and ensured themselves a place in the postseason for the first time since falling in the 2009 state final. Stevenson finished 1-8 last year and 2-7 in 2010.
