ROSEVILLE — The Michigan State Police are investigating a crash that left a pedestrian dead on Christmas Eve on Interstate 94 in Roseville.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m. along the shoulder of eastbound I-94 near Masonic Road. According to police, the 23-year-old Clinton Township man was struck by a car as he was walking along the side of the road.

The Michigan State Police is investigating the matter, and Lt. Mike Shaw, of the MSP, said the driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

“No cause for the accident has been determined and we are still trying to figure out why he was walking along the freeway in the dark to begin with,” Shaw said. “We identified the man and have notified his family. … The investigation is ongoing.”

The area was closed to traffic, and vehicles were diverted off at Little Mack Avenue, as crews tended to the crash scene until about 12:30 a.m.
