Eastpointe High School student reportedly stabbed by fellow student

EASTPOINTE — One Eastpointe High School student was hospitalized and another is in police custody after a disagreement between the two students turned violent.

The incident occurred at approximately 10 a.m. June 1 inside the high school. According to the Eastpointe Police Department, a 15-year-old student suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. Officers said he was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The department said that officers recovered the knife used in the stabbing at the scene and that the suspect, also 15 years old, surrendered to officers after a brief foot pursuit. He was taken to the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center.

“At approximately 10 a.m. today, there was an incident involving two students in a classroom at the high school. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another student has been taken into custody by the Eastpointe Police Department. The high school was locked down to ensure the safety of all students,” Eastpointe Community Schools said in a Facebook post at approximately 11:30 a.m. on the day of the incident. “The investigation is ongoing by Eastpointe Police and the high school administration. All other students and staff in the building are safe and school will be dismissed at its regular time.”

Eastpointe police officials said that the two students appeared to know each other. No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

“Our detectives are working with the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office to determine the proper criminal charges,” the Eastpointe Police Department said in a Facebook post on the day of the incident. “No further information can be released at this time.”
