ROYAL OAK — At a special press conference July 25, organizers for Arts, Beats & Eats announced this year’s headliners for the festival.

NOVI  — The Novi Parks Foundation held its annual Pour on the Shore fundraiser July 28 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Jessica’s Splashpad, which broke ground earlier this summer.

WALLOON LAKE — A couple of decades ago, while following Ernest Hemingway’s footsteps through the woods, rivers and towns of northern Michigan, I made my way to the village of Walloon Lake, where, I discovered, there was no village.

SOUTHFIELD — This year, Southfield is proud to host the seventh annual Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival 6-10:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, and 3-10:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, on the front lawn of the Southfield Municipal Campus, 26000 Evergreen Road.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Shelby Township residents Roy and Carol Townsend lost their son to cancer nine years ago and have since taken steps to help other families who might face the same things that they once did.

GROSSE POINTE SHORES — An annual fine art fair has a new home in the Grosse Pointes.

CLAWSON — For the 25th year, the Down on Main Street Charity Car Show will be back in Clawson.

ROYAL OAK — The city of Royal Oak will be holding its 28th annual car show during the big weekend of the Woodward Dream Cruise.

FERNDALE — The Woodward Dream Cruise is ready to return home again to Ferndale to celebrate its 28th year.

BERKLEY — Hundreds of vehicles will be hitting the road in Berkley in honor of the return of the city’s car parade.

MADISON HEIGHTS — While the Jewish community in Detroit is relatively small, their history of contributions is vast, ranging from the doctor who helped eradicate smallpox, to one of the most famous film producers in the world.

UTICA — Utica will be once again hosting its annual Gasoline Alley car show this Saturday while also supporting a local boy who has cancer.

WARREN — The Warren Concert Band has three performances this month at various venues around metropolitan Detroit.

FRANKLIN — Main Street Franklin will host its popular Summer Block Party for a third year 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP/BIRMINGHAM — Supply-chain issues due to the pandemic have affected industries throughout the world.

HAZEL PARK — Richard Gage likes to understand how things work. The namesake artist of Richard Gage Design Studio feels that taking things apart and putting them back together is a form of curiosity-driven learning that many young people don’t experience today.

WARREN — Fifteen-year-old Alex Deherder is a true optimist. His motto is, “Be hopeful. There is always hope even in bad spots or places. Even if you can’t see it, you can believe it.”

ST. CLAIR SHORES — Gear up to see some cool vehicles and support a great cause on Aug. 30 at the Harper Charity Cruise.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — A good time in support of a good cause could be in store for thousands of residents later this month.
