BIRMINGHAM — A controversy over a planned road, sewer and sidewalk project sparked by low water pressure for fire hydrants on two residential streets bubbled over into allegations of political attacks recently.

EASTPOINTE — A section of Nine Mile Road between Kelly Road and Gratiot Avenue will undergo a transformation.

SOUTHFIELD — The Road Commission for Oakland County and the city of Southfield will host a public information meeting about the 2024 resurfacing of 12 Mile Road from Telegraph Road to Northwestern Highway 4:30-7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Adlai Stevenson Elementary School, 27777 Lahser Road.

NOVI — A portion of Wixom Road is closed to through traffic while a sewer is being installed under the road.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — The Broughton Road extension project will remain in the concept stages for a little longer.

FERNDALE — Ferndale’s road improvements will continue this spring with the city’s 2024 pavement improvement program.

SOUTHFIELD — After being delayed multiple times due to winter weather conditions Jan. 12, 16, 22 and 23, the bridge work scheduled for east of Telegraph Road as part of the Restore the Reuther project was rescheduled again tentatively for Jan. 25.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — New year, new roads? That’s what one Harrison Township neighborhood might be getting.

BERKLEY — The Berkley City Council approved funding to continue its road rehabilitation project for multiple residential streets.

FERNDALE — The majority of the Woodward Avenue streetscape project has been completed since the fall, but some incomplete elements have led to parking issues on the street.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Improved lighting, extra signage, adjusted speed limits, more police or crossing guards. There are many ways to tackle traffic safety, and policymakers in Madison Heights cite it as a high priority this year.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — In a move aimed at enhancing pedestrian connectivity and ensuring safety for residents, initial work on constructing a new pedestrian bridge over the Lawson Drain on the north side of 25 Mile Road, between Mound Road and Van Dyke Ave, will begin this month.

TROY — On Jan. 10, Michigan state Reps. Tom Kuhn and Sharon MacDonell introduced a plan to establish a fund for sound barrier construction along state highways on which excessive highway noise has become an issue. 

AUBURN HILLS — Police are searching for three unidentified suspects responsible for robbing a jewelry store at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets.

STERLING HEIGHTS — Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel updated the public on the yearslong Innovate Mound project — which just wrapped up its core roadwork along an estimated 9-mile stretch of Mound Road, from Interstate 696 to M-59 — at a Dec. 20 press conference outside Srodek’s Quality Polish Food in Sterling Heights.

EASTPOINTE — While some Eastpointe City Council members voted to accept bids gathered by the Michigan Department of Transportation for the second phase of the Nine Mile Road renovation project, the council ultimately decided to put the project on hold at its Dec. 5 meeting.

DETROIT — During its December meeting, the Regional Transit Authority’s board of directors began discussions regarding a plan to transfer the QLINE and its assets under the management umbrella of the RTA.

WARREN — If you’ve traveled on Mound Road in Warren, you’ve likely experienced slowdowns, lane closures, and felt captive by construction. Recent weeks have seen noticeable progress, and many have asked, “When will this end?”

WEST BLOOMFIELD — A 5-2 vote left some Pine Lake Estates residents unfulfilled after the Board of Trustees’ decision to postpone approval of a new crosswalk Nov. 20.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Michigan roads will never stop breaking down, but the Clinton Township Board of Trustees took steps to improve some of the community’s roads at its Nov. 13 meeting.
