METRO DETROIT — Just getting to the state wrestling finals is quite the accomplishment.

It’s even more of a testament of a grappler’s skill and mettle when they earn All-State honors.

A total of 34 grapplers from the C & G Sports coverage area took home the distinction. 

In total, nearly 900 wrestlers competed at the final, which took place March 2-4 at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The top eight finishers in each class earned the All-State distinction.

AUBURN HILLS —Orchard Lake St. Mary’s freshman Joshua Edmond knows there's still another goal to be had.

This season, he finished runner-up at the Division 2 individual wrestling finals March 4 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Lowell High's Austin Boone won the match 6-3 in the 135-pound class.

Despite finishing his freshman campaign with a record of 53-1, Edmond referred to his season as incomplete.

“I fought hard, he just came out on top,” Edmond said. “There’s nothing I can do about it.”
