Last season’s record: 1-8
League: Macomb Area Conference White Division
Returning starters: Seven
First game: 7 p.m. Aug. 29 vs. Warren Michigan Collegiate
Offensive keys:
North struggled to score points last season, averaging just over 10 points per game.

The Norsemen offense returns just four starters from last year’s group and is looking to score more points by opening up the offense a little bit.

“We’re refocusing the offense, and we’re looking at really going to more of a high-powered, more wide-open offense, looking at what Texas Tech has done in the past, a little bit of an air raid type of thing,” North coach Joe Drouin said.
Defensive keys:
After allowing opponents to score 357 points in 2018, North will be looking to get back on track. That total was the highest in program history by more than 100 points.

“Defensively, we’re going to show a lot of different looks,” Drouin said. “Last year, we obviously struggled. We had eight losses — six of them by mercy — so we have no place to go but up on the defensive side.”

Coach’s outlook:
North’s last playoff appearance was back in 2017, and Drouin is optimistic that his group can compete in the league this year.

“We have a lot of talent, but we do lack some depth, so health is a key,” Drouin said. “With a focused offensive scheme and a retooled defense, we look to surprise some teams in the MAC this year.”

vs. Warren Michigan Collegiate (8-2) — 7 p.m. Aug. 29
The two programs met for the first time last season, with Collegiate picking up a 26-14 win. North scored 14 or less points in all but one game last year.
vs. Utica High (1-8) — 7 p.m. Sept. 6
North’s only win of the 2018 campaign came against Utica, winning 21-17. North is 9-6 all-time against the Chieftains.
at Macomb L’Anse Creuse North (4-5) — 7 p.m. Sept. 13
The Norsemen are 11-3 all-time against the Crusaders, but L’Anse Creuse North took last year’s meeting 19-14.

vs. Warren Mott (7-3) — 7 p.m. Sept. 20
North fell 50-14 to Mott last season and scored just 93 points all season. A win for North this time around would even the all-time series between the two programs.

at Port Huron Northern (10-2) — 7 p.m. Sept. 27
The Norsemen’s last win against Port Huron Northern was back in 2013, but North does lead the all-time series 13-7. In last season’s matchup, the Huskies prevailed 48-3.

at Romeo High (6-4) — 7 p.m. Oct. 4
Romeo has won the last four meetings between the two programs and leads the all-time series 10-8. North’s last win against the Bulldogs came in 2006.
vs. Utica Ford II (3-6) — 7 p.m. Oct. 11
North and Ford have split 14 games in the series. Last season, the Falcons prevailed 47-14. The Norsemen gave up 357 points last year.
at Grosse Pointe South (8-2) — 7 p.m. Oct. 18
The rivalry has been tight over the last few years, but North holds a 31-20 lead in the all-time series. South won last year’s meeting 54-0, marking the largest margin of victory in the series. The previous record came in a 49-0 North victory in 1993.
vs. New Baltimore Anchor Bay (3-6) — 7 p.m. Oct. 25
North has won five of the last six meetings and is 10-6 all-time against Anchor Bay. However, the Tars got a 47-13 win against the Norsemen last year.
