Utica Eisenhower’s volleyball season came to an end after a Class A regional semifinal loss to Clarkston High Nov. 6.

But the Eagles have no reason to hang their heads, having wrapped up one of the program’s best years in a while.

Ike finished 35-11-2, including going a perfect 10-0 in the Macomb Area Conference Blue Division to win a league title for the first time in at least 15 years. The postseason found the Eagles winning their first district title since 2009.

While the volleyball postseason continues, the Macomb Area Conference has honored its top players from the regular season with its All-Conference honorees.

Here’s a division-by-division breakdown, including each league’s Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year.

Dakota junior Carli Snyder was named the MVP, while Dakota’s Tracie Ferguson was honored as the Coach of the Year.

Fraser High’s volleyball season came to an end during district play, as the team fell in five games to Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse Oct. 31 in a semifinal at Roseville High.

The Ramblers wrap up the year 22-21-1, and coach Melissa Criteser said the team has plenty of reasons not to hang its head.

“We had some great moments throughout the year,” she said.

“They have so much heart,” the coach continued. “They never gave up. The effort was always there. I couldn’t ask more from them.”

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — Talk about a season for the ages.

Coming off back-to-back 0-9 seasons, Macomb L’Anse Creuse North’s football team put together arguably the finest season in program history.

The Crusaders finished the year 8-3 after falling 42-17 Nov. 2 at Dakota in a Division 1 district final. Before this season, North had never won more than seven games and had never won a playoff game.

“It was a great season,” North coach Anthony Kiner said after the loss. “It’s something we’re happy with.”

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — Dakota’s football team is back in the regional round after beating Macomb L’Anse Creuse North 42-17 Nov. 2 at home.

The win marked the Cougars’ third district title in four seasons after falling in the first round of the playoffs last year.

Dakota (10-1) will play at Lake Orion High (10-1) at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in regionals.

Winning districts wasn’t that easy, though. A week after edging rival Chippewa Valley 17-7 in the first round, Dakota found itself trailing North 10-7 at halftime.

MACOMB – Dakota’s football team won the battle for 21 Mile Road and a trip to the regional round of the playoffs with a 42-17 victory Nov. 2 over neighbor L’Anse Creuse North.

“They’re a pretty good football team,” Dakota coach Mike Giannone said about LCN. “I think we just wore them down a little bit. We played great defense. The defense was the answer tonight.”

Boys and girls cross country regionals were held Oct. 26-27, and a couple of local runners qualified for the Nov. 3 state finals at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Local qualifiers include L’Anse Creuse North junior Trevor Creagh and Dakota senior Christina Micale from the Oct. 27 Division 1 regional at Goodells County Park, and Lutheran North’s boys and girls teams both qualified from the Division 3 regional at Willow Metropark in New Boston.

Boys and girls cross country regionals were held Oct. 26-27, and a couple of local runners qualified for the Nov. 3 state finals at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Local qualifiers include a pair of Utica Eisenhower runners in Brianna Mozariwskyj and Kevin Salter from the Oct. 27 Division 1 regional at Goodells County Park.

Mozariwskyj, a freshman, ran a time of 19 minutes, 10 seconds to take 11th  in the girls race. Salter, a senior, finished in 16:16 and 13th place of the boys race.

When Utica Eisenhower running back Shane King left the Eagles’ third game of the season back in early September with an injury, there were reasons for concern.

“Shane’s such a great player for us. A lot of the stuff we worked on all season was based around him as running back, receiver and kick returner. He’s a big part of what we’re doing,” Ike coach Chris Smith said. “When we lost him, it was tough.”

But being without King for the next four games turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Eagles.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP – Macomb Dakota defeated Chippewa Valley 17-7 in an Oct. 26 Division 1 pre-district playoff football game at Dakota.

“That’s a tough draw out of the box,” Dakota coach Mike Giannone said about his Cougars facing their rivals the Big Reds for the second time in three weeks. “For the most part our guys played hard.”

The Cougars, who beat the Big Reds 17-13 two weeks ago, advance to play Macomb L’Anse Creuse North in a district final Nov. 2 or 3 at Dakota. North defeated Romeo High 35-21 in its opener.
