Harper Woods police investigate drive-by shooting

HARPER WOODS — Harper Woods detectives are investigating a drive-by shooting that took place at approximately 3 p.m. March 13.

Harper Woods Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to the 21300 block of Bournemouth after reports were called in of shots being fired in the area. Upon arrival, a man was located who police believe was the intended target of the shooting.

Investigators determined that a gray, newer-model SUV occupied by two individuals was involved. According to police, the victim was walking along Bournemouth when the suspects’ vehicle pulled up alongside him. Police said the passenger pointed a handgun at the victim, who took cover behind a nearby dumpster. The passenger of the SUV fired several shots, with two of them striking the dumpster. The victim was unhurt, police said.

Harper Woods police officers said the suspects' vehicle fled east at high speed toward Mack Avenue. They described the driver as a black man in his late 20s or early 30s who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with large white lettering and black pants at the time of the incident. The passenger was described as a black man in his late 20s or early 30s who wore a black hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants at the time of the incident.
