BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham will embrace the holiday season once again with its annual Winter Markt.

BIRMINGHAM — In the 1950s, Birmingham became home to a department store called Jacobson’s, which became very popular throughout the community. In 2003, the store closed, but its memory still lives on at the Birmingham Museum’s “Jacobson’s Experience.”

BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Shopping District is celebrating its small businesses with its lively Small Business Saturday event Nov. 26-27.

FARMINGTON HILLS — Running a successful business has likely never been an easy task, but in recent years things have become even more challenging for many local business owners.

STERLING HEIGHTS — Amid the gift giving and decorations that accompany the holiday season, there’s also the need to feed people.

EASTPOINTE — Several people gathered outside an Eastpointe building on Kelly Road that was currently under development on a brisk November morning. The building had recently been sold to the owner of Big Daddy Games and was in the process of being redeveloped for several mixed-use spaces.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — With all of the shopping options that have become available in recent years — in particular, online shopping — things have become more challenging for many local business owners.

MACOMB COUNTY — As Thanksgiving draws closer, local businesses are looking forward to the busiest time of the year: the holiday shopping season and Small Business Saturday.

SOUTHFIELD — After COVID put it on hold for two years, the Potters Market is back in time for the holiday season, with more than 35,000 pieces of pottery on offer from 124 artists, including 55 artists making their debut at the show.

HAZEL PARK/MADISON HEIGHTS — Small Business Saturday is Nov. 26, an opportunity to appreciate the many unique shops that keep the local economy humming.

ROCHESTER — The Paint Creek Trailways Commission has been awarded a $50,000 grant to cover design engineering for the replacement of Bridge 31.7 along the Paint Creek Trail, just north of downtown Rochester.

BIRMINGHAM — Local restaurants and artists are coming together once again for the 19th year of the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center’s “Shop and Champagne.” Due to the pandemic, this event has been on hiatus for the last two years.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — Work on the Blossom Heath Park pier project continued into November with ongoing improvements, restoration work and the expected addition of new features.

ROCHESTER — A new development is in the works to take the place of Rochester’s oldest business, the Rochester Elevator Co., at the corner of University and Water streets in downtown Rochester.

GROSSE POINTE CITY — To assist local businesses and encourage shoppers to patronize their neighborhood stores, weekend parking in The Village will once again be free this holiday season in off-street surface parking lots.

GROSSE POINTE WOODS — Ahee Jewelers in Grosse Pointe Woods has been a go-to location for generations of local families in search of engagement rings and fine jewelry gifts, but the family-owned business has also been just as well known for its charitable work in the community.

BIRMINGHAM — After two years, the renovation work to the Birmingham Adult Transition Program building has been completed. A formal ribbon cutting was held Oct. 25.

METRO DETROIT — Recent years have seen an increasing number of women pursuing medicine. According to a data report from the Association of American Medical Colleges, 2019 was the first year more women were enrolled in medical school than men.

STERLING HEIGHTS — After years of city deliberation about the future of the Lakeside Mall area, the public is finally able to see the ripple effect, thanks to newly revealed concept designs.
