STERLING HEIGHTS — A 21-year-old man driving a stolen Jeep who hit and killed a woman while fleeing from police in 2021 has been sentenced for second-degree murder.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — On Aug. 31, a Harrison Township business caught fire causing massive plumes of smoke in the sky and significant damage to the building itself.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — According to a press release from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, a Harrison Township woman was bound over for trial in Macomb County Circuit Court on a second-degree murder charge on Sept. 5.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team responded to an alleged drowning around 6 p.m. Aug. 31 when a man was reportedly found floating face down in Pleasant Lake.

EASTPOINTE — An Eastpointe woman accused of stabbing her manager to death at a McDonald’s drive-thru window is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether she is fit to stand trial for first-degree murder.

HAZEL PARK — Authorities have arrested a man suspected of killing a mother and her young son at their Hazel Park home. The apparent double homicide is believed to have occurred over the Labor Day weekend, with police officers dispatched around 4:15 p.m. Sept.

ROCHESTER HILLS — A 22-year-old man from Rochester Hills has been arrested after allegedly luring a teen online to meet him for sex.

ROCHESTER HILLS — Four men were arrested Aug. 28 after a pursuit that ended in the crash of an alleged stolen vehicle in Rochester Hills.

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — A 35-year-old man allegedly groped a teenager at a grocery store in Oakland Township.

ROCHESTER HILLS — One person was killed and another was injured by gunfire after a fight broke out in a hotel parking lot in Rochester Hills Sept. 1.

HAZEL PARK — When a local woman rushed her bleeding husband to the Hazel Park Police Department, officers sprang into action to keep the man alive.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A Florida man’s case has advanced to Macomb County Circuit Court for allegedly violently abducting a man outside a Shelby Township gym in 2023.

MACOMB COUNTY — Three Macomb County residents have pleaded guilty in what authorities say is a more than $3 million Paycheck Protection Program fraud scheme.

WEST BLOOMFIELD/SOUTHFIELD — Authorities have identified the remains of a man discovered in Pine Lake July 29 as as Alfonce Capone Friday, 30, a Southfield resident who had gone missing. 

STERLING HEIGHTS — A 41-year-old school bus driver from Grosse Pointe Park died after touching a power line while working on a lift on Aug. 25, Sterling Heights police said in a media release.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Voters in Clinton Township decided on Aug. 5 to renew the Clinton Township Police Department’s millage for 2026-2035.

EASTPOINTE — A Livonia woman faces up to life in prison after allegedly firing a gun at her friend’s father when he asked her to leave his Eastpointe home.

NOVI — To help ensure that children and teens in the community start the school year off right, members of the Novi Public Safety Department, in partnership with Novi Youth Assistance, took 15 students shopping at the Kohl’s department store in Novi Aug. 8. 

TROY — The Troy Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit has made two arrests in connection with an ongoing auto theft investigation. The arrests were made with the help of the Macomb County Auto Theft Unit.

GROSSE POINTE CITY — 2024 saw the retirements of two valued veterans of the Grosse Pointe City Public Safety Department — Sgt. Michael Almeranti and Lt. Alan Gwyn — but fortunately, some of the department’s newer members are stepping up to fill their shoes.
