WEST BLOOMFIELD — Capital projects for the West Bloomfield Police Department were reviewed Sept. 4 at the township’s first budget meeting for the 2026 fiscal year. Funds for roads, senior projects and a host of other township services were also considered. 

FARMINGTON HILLS — At its meeting Sept. 8, the Farmington Hills City Council issued a proclamation for the 25th anniversary of the city’s Cultural Arts Division, recognizing its impact on the community.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team responded to an alleged drowning around 6 p.m. Aug. 31 when a man was reportedly found floating face down in Pleasant Lake.

KEEGO HARBOR — Heart of the Lakes, a community organization dedicated to preserving Roosevelt Elementary — or at least delaying its demolition — recently gathered to save the century-old landmark, only to see abatement crews begin work a few days later.

FARMINGTON HILLS — At the Aug. 11 meeting of the Farmington Hills City Council, members voted 6-1 to reject a proposal for a planned unit development spanning Mulberry Park and the Tabernacle, both on 13 Mile Road west of Middlebelt Road. 

WEST BLOOMFIELD — Kelly Hyer, the executive director of West Bloomfield Parks, presented an update to the township board Aug. 11 regarding plans to build a new activities hub called the Connect Community Center.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — The West Bloomfield Planning Commission and members of the community have expressed concerns about a local developer’s proposal to rezone the site of the former Bloomfield Orchard Nursing Home and redevelop it into single-family housing. 

WEST BLOOMFIELD/SOUTHFIELD — Authorities have identified the remains of a man discovered in Pine Lake July 29 as as Alfonce Capone Friday, 30, a Southfield resident who had gone missing. 

FARMINGTON HILLS — Jim Cubera, city engineer, started his career with the city of Farmington Hills in May 1977, and will conclude his tenure of more than 48 years Aug. 29.

FARMINGTON HILLS — Thanks to the quick thinking of an employee, a dangerous situation was avoided at a local Walgreens.

FARMINGTON — Shiawassee Park in Farmington welcomed Michigan’s first Fitness Court featuring a studio at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 12.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — Plans are now underway for West Bloomfield’s budget in 2026, and the township is requesting the public’s input.

FARMINGTON — At its July 21 meeting, the Farmington City Council voted 4-0 to extend hours for businesses in the Syndicate social district.

KEEGO HARBOR — On Aug. 7, the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled 3-0 to dissolve an order that had paused the demolition of Roosevelt Elementary.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — At the 22nd Orchard Lake Fine Art Show in West Bloomfield July 26-27, nearly 200 artists displayed their wares, including about 60 artists who are children.
