FERNDALE — A 29-year-old Detroit man was arrested for firing multiple shots at a woman on New Year’s Eve in Ferndale.

Bryant Kamin Davis was arrested Jan. 4 for allegedly firing a handgun at a former partner in the 200 block of Leroy Street in an incident that was reported to police at approximately 3:19 a.m. Dec. 31.

According to Ferndale police, a 27-year-old Oak Park woman came to the department to report the shooting that had occurred a couple of hours prior at 1:51 a.m.

Ferndale Police Department Public Information Officer Jill Mahlmeister said the woman entered the department’s lobby and told police that the vehicle she had been driving had been hit by bullets.

“The victim was driving by in a car, a SUV, and the suspect fired rounds into the vehicle she was driving as she passed by him,” she said.

Police arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation, which revealed that a man, allegedly Davis, fired several shots at the woman, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Mahlmeister said the woman did not suffer any injuries in the incident and that the shooter had fled the area by the time police arrived. She also said that neither the victim nor suspect live on Leroy Street and that the suspect was visiting an acquaintance who lived on the block.

“She was fortunate she was not struck,” Mahlmeister said. “This was not a random act. The incident was following a domestic dispute. The victim was the intended target.”

After speaking with witnesses and gathering evidence, police submitted evidence to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. An arrest warrant was authorized, and the Oakland County Fugitive Team made the arrest of Davis on Jan. 4.

Davis was arraigned in the 43rd District Court on Jan. 5. He was charged with one count of assault with intent to murder and one count of felon in possession of a firearm. Both charges are felonies.

Davis was given a $250,000 cash or surety bond. His next court appearance is 1 p.m. Jan. 12. At press time, it was unclear if Davis had an attorney.
