NOVI — Fourth graders throughout the Novi Community School District have decorated coffee cup sleeves to be handed out with hot drink purchases at the “Read a Latte Cafe” located inside the Novi Public Library Feb. 10-14, or while supplies last.

ROCHESTER HILLS/AUBURN HILLS/BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP/TROY — A high school student was taken into custody after reportedly stabbing another student at Avondale High School.

ROYAL OAK — Communications is a subject that Royal Oak High School thrives in, considering the past two years of students being nominated for the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Student Broadcast Awards.

NOVI — The Novi Community School District has implemented numerous safety measures to protect the children within the district, and the school board received a report on the district’s efforts during a Jan. 23 meeting.

ROCHESTER — Rochester Christian University is introducing a need-based Tuition-Free Scholarship available to students starting in fall 2025.

LATHRUP VILLAGE — The old Annie Lathrup school building, located at 27700 Southfield Road, which is owned by the Surnow Company, has become the talk of the town.

CLAWSON — As the second anniversary of Alexandria Verner’s tragic death approaches, the Clawson community will be holding a memorial to honor and remember her.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Henry Ford II High School Associate Principal Anthony Tocco was recently named in a group of 12 school leaders statewide who will take part in an 18-month program for the next generation of administrators at the secondary level.

UTICA/STERLING HEIGHTS/SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Utica Community Schools broke ground on the future site of Stevenson High School’s new baseball and softball fields and tennis courts Jan. 14 and then broke ground Jan. 29 on athletic complex improvements at Swinehart Field.

CENTER LINE — Crothers Elementary in Center Line Public Schools is back.

EASTPOINTE — As part of the Eastpointe Community Schools long-term facilities master plan, the district’s four elementary schools will undergo a transition.

EASTPOINTE — Many in the community know Ian McCain as Eastpointe’s economic development manager, for his volunteer work with the city’s community garden, as a Recreation Authority of Roseville & Eastpointe board member and more.

METRO DETROIT — The year 2025 is going to be picture perfect for Durell Thomas Jr. At press time, the 2022 Harper Woods High School graduate had started his new position as an intern for the Arizona Diamondbacks, based in Phoenix. Thomas, 21, will document the team’s season taking videos and photos of Major League Baseball players.
