ROYAL OAK — The Royal Oak Police Department is searching for a suspect in the robbery of a local bank.

Police were notified in the later afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 27, that a robbery had occurred at Huntington Bank, 4609 Crooks Road.

According to a report released by police, a male suspect entered the bank at 4:41 p.m., implied that he had a weapon and demanded money from a teller. Security camera footage shows the suspect with his hand in his jacket pocket so that it was pointed at the teller in a way to suggest he was holding a gun.

“Investigators learned the suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene after implying he had a weapon under his jacket to the teller,” a police press release states. “A Royal Oak K-9 officer responded to locate the suspect and tracked his path to a nearby street where it is believed he entered an unknown vehicle and fled the area.”

No injuries were reported to police in the incident. The release states that the Royal Oak Police Criminal Investigation Division is working to identify the suspect.

The suspect was described by police as a Black male who was 5 feet, 10 inches in height and who weighed between 120 and 130 pounds. He wore a black jacket with a hood over his head, a black mask over his face, olive green sweatpants and white gym shoes. He also had possible tattoos on his wrists, police said.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact the Royal Oak Police Department and Criminal Investigation Division Lt. Al Carter at (248) 246-3456.

As of Oct. 10, the department did not have an update on the case.

“It’s an ongoing investigation with our detective bureau, and at this point in time we don’t have anything to release,” Carter said.
