FERNDALE — A new library director has begun his tenure at the Ferndale Area District Library. Jordan Wright, a longtime employee of the library, was hired as the Ferndale Area District Library’s new director and began work Jan. 22.

WARREN — On Jan. 30, Democratic Macomb County Commissioner Mai Xiong and Republican Ronald Singer won their respective special primary elections for the District 13 seat in the Michigan House of Representatives left vacant by newly elected Warren Mayor Lori M. Stone.

ROCHESTER HILLS — In their third-consecutive meeting, the Rochester Adams varsity girls and boys basketball teams will host the Dutton Farm Farmers in a 5v5 charity basketball game at 1 p.m. Feb. 3 at Adams High School. Doors are set to open at 12:30 p.m.

DETROIT — It may be cold in Michigan, but the Friends of the Detroit River and Detroit Historical Society are inviting the public to join them and learn more about the environment with its Shiver on the River celebration.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — After investigating an incident Jan. 9 in which two Shelby Township police officers opened fire on a suspect, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office determined that the officers acted according to the law and their training and that no charges would be requested against the officers.

MOUNT CLEMENS — The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Jan. 25 that its Hate Crimes Unit, established in 2022, received an $800,000 grant.
