Woman injured in Bloomfield Twp car-train crash

A 77-year-old woman from Allen Park was seriously injured in a car-train crash in Bloomfield Township on Christmas Eve.

Police say the woman was driving a 2023 Buick when it was struck by a train operated by the Canadian National Railway Co. at approximately 5:39 p.m. Dec. 24 in the area of South Opdyke and Kensington roads in Bloomfield Township.

The driver of the Buick suffered serious injuries, according to police, and she was transported to Trinity Health Oakland Hospital by the Bloomfield Township Fire Department. 

At press time, police said the woman had been transferred out of the intensive care unit and was expected to recover.

The engineer and the conductor of the train were not injured and remained at the scene. 

Police said neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash.

The crash is under investigation by the Bloomfield Township Police Department and the CN Police Service.
