MADISON HEIGHTS — Three trustees have resigned from the Madison District Public Schools Board of Education, citing compatibility issues with the rest of the board, and unease over social media discourse around a previous superintendent.

NOVI — Select members of the Novi Community School District kicked off the school year by participating in a roundtable discussion on pertinent issues in public education with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer at Novi High School Aug. 24.

NOVI — The staff at Novi Meadows Elementary School, on Taft Road, south of 11 Mile Road, commemorated the construction of their very own building by autographing a beam Aug. 30 that will be used as part of the foundational structure above the office of the new school building.

TROY — Over the summer, 12 Troy High School students traveled to Europe to take part in an international leadership summit in Berlin to learn to work together, listen to those with different perspectives and solve problems.

EASTPOINTE — The 2022-23 school year for one Eastpointe Community Schools elementary school began with a donation from AT&T Michigan Pioneers.

HAZEL PARK — A series of signposts featuring pages from a children’s book are now on display at United Oaks Elementary School — a way to enjoy a story while going for a stroll. And in the spring, a grant-funded sensory garden will be added, as well.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP —  The Clintondale Community Schools Board of Education unanimously renewed Superintendent Rodriguez Broadnax’s contract at its July 25 meeting.

FERNDALE — The new school year in Ferndale will be coinciding with the tenure of a new high school principal.

ROCHESTER/ROCHESTER HILLS/OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — Students and families in the Rochester Community Schools district can track their school bus with the help of a new smartphone app this school year.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Do you have a son or daughter who needs an instrument to play for school or know someone who wants to learn how to play an instrument? Perhaps someone is looking to upgrade to a better model or to sell an instrument that is not being played anymore.

ROYAL OAK — On Aug. 17, Royal Oak Schools Superintendent Mary Beth Fitzpatrick delivered a State of the Schools address in which she highlighted district accomplishments, as well as programs, services and ways the school community could get involved.

CENTER LINE — One day when substitute teaching at Center Line High School, a sophomore asked Thomas Walkush, “What is the meaning of good?"

WARREN — During his years at De La Salle Collegiate High School, student Robert L. Nugent always stayed involved.

METRO DETROIT — With the new school year approaching, that means homecoming season will soon arrive.

FARMINGTON — A Farmington Public Schools special education teacher was recognized this year by the Council for Exceptional Children for her work on behalf of children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents, according to a district press release.

WARREN — Eighteen-year-old Blake Lyons found an artistic way to pay tribute to his grandfather Robert James Lyons, who died in November 2021.

BIRMINGHAM — This year, staff and administrators at Birmingham Public Schools spent part of their summer preparing for the upcoming year through a leadership planning event.

MADISON HEIGHTS — The city of Madison Heights is working with its two school districts to install police officers at each campus who will provide an extra layer of security for students and staff.
