Library has new app
NOVI — The Novi Public Library now has an app that allows residents to access copies of their membership cards, view and search the card catalog, manage holds on materials and multiple accounts, and see upcoming library events. MyLIBRO is available on Google Play or the Apple App Store.

 

Taft road now open
NOVI — Taft Road, which had been open only to northbound traffic from Nine Mile to 10 Mile roads, is now open for two-way traffic. However, construction is not completed. The final leg of work will be done under flag control, according to an announcement from the city of Novi Sept. 1.

 

Michigan Center for Youth Justice to hold conference in Novi
NOVI — The Michigan Center for Youth Justice, in partnership with the Student Advocacy Center of Michigan, will hold a conference on the topic of creating transformative schools at the Sheraton Detroit in Novi Oct. 25. The one-day conference will be held 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and will include breakfast and lunch. It will feature keynote speaker Jaime T. Koppell, as well as speeches by experts, advocates and thought leaders who will discuss the intersection of education and justice.

Sessions will be held on the topics of best practices for preventing school disruptions,  honoring the whole child, and action planning to create transformative schools.

Workshops will be focused on police in schools; restraint, seclusion and supporting students with disabilities; trauma-responsive classrooms; preventing justice involvement through diversion; student leadership and youth-led organizing; and multiculturalism, equity and anti-racism in schools

General admission costs $75, or $150 for those seeking to obtain six continuing education credits. Students pay $25. For more information or to register, go to miyouthjustice.org/events.

 

Sock hop fundraiser scheduled
PLYMOUTH — Another Day Resource Center, which is a nonprofit that supplies food, clothing and hygiene items to individuals, is set to host its third “Sock Hop Classic Car Show” at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at Mile City Church, located at 13100 N. Haggerty Road in Plymouth. A silent auction, a photo booth and a DJ are set to be part of the fundraising dinner.
