Native plant sale
MADISON HEIGHTS — The Madison Heights Human Relations and Equity Commission will host its Native Plant Sale from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, in the parking lot between City Hall and the Police Department, just east of Civic Center Park, off 13 Mile Road west of John R Road.
The sale will feature native plant experts on-site, custom plant kits, display tables and resources including free seeds. The event raises funds for the HREC, and is done in partnership with East Michigan Native Plants, specializing in pesticide-free locally grown plants.
Learn about wolves
MADISON HEIGHTS — The Red Oaks Nature Center at Suarez Friendship Woods, located at 30300 Hales St. in Madison Heights, will host two presentations about wolves — one for ages 6-9, and the other for ages 10-13, both part of the Homeschool Series.
Both sessions take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12. The presentation will cover canids and their elusive ways, and include stories, crafts and more. The cost is $10 per child, paid with registration by calling the nature center at (248) 858-0916 on weekdays.
Car show and BBQ
MADISON HEIGHTS — Motorama & Smoke, a fundraising event for the Madison Heights Human Relations and Equity Commission, is set to take place at Madison High School, located at 915 E. 11 Mile Road, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.
The event will feature a car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a $10 registration fee in advance to participate and $12 the day of; a BBQ competition from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a $50 registration fee for either chicken or ribs; a kids’ burger competition, with a $25 registration fee; and a cornhole tournament starting at 10 a.m., with a $10 registration fee.

County seeks feedback on parks
MADISON HEIGHTS — Oakland County Parks and the city of Madison Heights have entered into a partnership agreement to revitalize both Ambassador Park and the Red Oaks Nature Center, located at 600 E. 13 Mile Road and 30300 Hales St., respectively. This includes a commitment by the county to invest a minimum of $1.5 million to improve the parks.
The public is invited to share feedback by attending a workshop at the Red Oaks Nature Center from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22. Those unable to attend can complete an online survey to share their feedback at oaklandcountyparks.com.
Party like a pirate
MADISON HEIGHTS — Kids are invited to a Pirate Party in the Breckinridge Room at the Madison Heights Public Library, 240 W. 13 Mile Road, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30.
The free event, done in partnership between the library and the Active Adult Center, will feature pirate stories, jokes and special guest Patchy the Pirate.

Play golf in the dark
MADISON HEIGHTS — The annual Glow Ball Golf Scramble is set for Friday, Sept. 29, starting at 7 p.m. at the Red Oaks Golf Course, located at 29600 John R Road in Madison Heights. The event, for ages 21 and older, features a shotgun start, with teams of two people alternating shots with a special glowing golf ball. Each team will receive one glow ball, with additional glow balls available for $5 each. There will be cash prizes for first and second place. Bring a flashlight.
