1. Motor City Comic Con

Officials are boasting their largest array of celebrity guests to date for Motor City Comic Con, set to take place May 19-21 at the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave. in Novi. Among the nearly 40 stars will be Christopher Lloyd ("Back to the Future"), Jason Isaacs ("Harry Potter"), Carl Weathers ("The Mandalorian"), Will Poulter ("Guardians of the Galaxy"), Clark Gregg ("Avengers") and Mark Sheppard ("Supernatural"). The comic book and pop culture convention, established in 1989, takes place twice a year; this spring installment will run noon-7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. 2. Market Days
May 20 • Clinton Township
The Market Days event series is back for 2023, with the first date scheduled for May 20. Attendees will find local vendors selling goods, along with food trucks, free youth programming, community resources and more, from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Prince Drewry Park, 22013 Quinn Road in Clinton Township. Smetanka Spring Craft Show
Looking for more local vendors selling goods? The Smetanka Spring Craft Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Macomb Sports & Expo Center, Building P on Macomb Community College's South Campus, 14500 E. 12 Mile Road in Warren. 3. Great Lakes Boating Festival
May 20-21 • Grosse Pointe Shores
After a year off due to renovations at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club marina, the 34th Great Lakes Boating Festival will return from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the GPYC, 788 Lake Shore Road in Grosse Pointe Shores. The free event will feature 75 vendors, an art fair, live music by the band Circle City Steel, lawn games, cocktails and food served by Flavors Food Truck. Attendees can park for free by taking a complimentary shuttle from nearby Parcells Middle School, 20600 Mack Ave. in Grosse Pointe Woods. 4. Java and Jazz
May 21 • Beverly Hills
Beginning May 21 and running every third Sunday of the month through Oct. 15, folks can get free coffee and breakfast snacks, and listen to live music, during Java and Jazz at the Beverly Park Pavilion, 18801 Beverly Road in Beverly Hills. 5. Farmers markets (opening weekend)

Clawson

Starting May 20, the Shelby Farmers Market will take place rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 14 on the front lawn of the Packard Proving Grounds, 49965 Van Dyke Ave. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome while their owners peruse produce, homemade crafts and more. St. Clair Shores
The Macomb Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet and classic rock cover band Rock Steady will perform during the May 21 farmers market at Blossom Heath Park, located south of 10 Mile Road on Jefferson Avenue in St. Clair Shores. A food truck rally with a beer area will also be on site during the initial event, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The markets will continue from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every fourth Sunday of the month until Sept. 24, and from 5 to 9 p.m. every second Thursday of the month June 8-Oct. 12.
