OAKLAND COUNTY — Ronald Dwyer bested Al Gui in the Republican primary Aug. 2 for the 3rd District of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.

The unofficial totals were 3,736 votes for Dwyer, and 473 votes for Gui, with 15 unassigned write-ins. The Democratic incumbent is Gary McGillivray, running unopposed.

The race in November will be for one two-year term. Oakland County commissioners earn a salary of about $36,000.

District 3 covers the cities of Hazel Park and Madison Heights, and portions of Troy.

Neither candidate replied to requests for comment by press time.

Previously, Dwyer described himself in a profile published by C & G Newspapers. However, Gui did not respond.

Dwyer, 48, is the owner of RCS Janitorial, a multi-state janitorial company. He has also worked as a realtor for 20-plus years, and as an insurance agent for 30-plus years. He is a resident of Troy and has lived there for 27 years, and has an associate degree from Oakland Community College, and an insurance degree from the American Institute of Insurance.

“As a homeowner in the district. my goals are to continue the legacy that Brooks Patterson left, keep our AAA bond rating by keeping our spending in check, and that has not been happening with wasteful spending,” Dwyer previously said.

He also said that he wants to make sure small businesses are not hindered by “intrusive unconstitutional mandates,” and that parents are “allowed to decide what’s best for their children’s safety.” Dwyer also said he wants additional support for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
