West Bloomfield-area athletes heading to track and field state finals

WEST BLOOMFIELD/WALLED LAKE/ORCHARD LAKE — Local teams participated in track regionals last week, with multiple athletes from the area qualifying for the Division 1 state final.

The D-1 final takes place June 1 at East Kentwood High. Following are the names of the athletes from local teams who qualified.

For West Bloomfield High, Dillon Tatum qualified in the 400-meter, posting a time of 50.27 seconds. The Lakers’ 4x200 relay team qualified with a time of 1:30.36.

Elijah Adeniji jumped 21-8 1/2 in the long jump to also earn a spot at the state meet. On the girls side for the Lakers, Kaitlynn Rush ran 12.41 in the 100 to earn a spot.

The Lakers’ 4x100 relay team posted a time of 49.11 to nab a spot in the finals, and the 4x200 relay team ran a 1:43.03 to also reach the final.

For Walled Lake Northern, Andre Price qualified in the high jump, leaping 6-3. In the shot put, Jacob Ogg threw 50-10 to earn a spot.

In the discus, the Knights had Ogg (151-2), Alex Hunt (149-1) and Tyler Devon (145-3) qualify for states. In the pole vault, Jordan Taiwo vaulted 13 feet to secure his spot at the finals. Paulina Cole also made it by vaulting 10-3.

In the 400, Walled Lake Central had Tyler Burrell qualify for states with a time of 49.72. In the 800, Akshay Reddy posted a time of 1:57.17 to claim a spot.

At 1,600, the Vikings will be sending Chris Allen (4:21.08) and Thomas Polak (4:21.47) to the finals. Central’s 4x400 relay team ran a 3:26.18 to advance.

In the shot put, Tanner Crookston posted a 49-8 1/2 mark to make it to states. Crookston also advanced in the discus, throwing 145-6. In the pole vault, Jake Perry vaulted 13 feet to earn a spot. Joy Mosley also advanced to the state meet for the Vikings, throwing 114-9 in the discus.

Walled Lake Western will be sending Bathie Boye to the state finals after he ran 11.19 seconds in the 100. The Warriors will also send Kevin Jackson, who jumped 21-2 in the long jump.

For the girls, Maryam Sheena earned her spot in the 3,200, running a 10:52.92. Kennedy Jackson will participate in the 110 hurdles after running 14.57 seconds. Jackson will also be taking part in the high jump and long jump after leaping 5-7 and 18-5 1/4, respectively.

For Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, Edward Watkins ran a 50.87 in the 400 to advance to the state meet. At 800 meters, Jack Rankin posted a 2:01.52 to earn his spot at the finals.

In the 110 hurdles, Logan Allen (15.15) and Daniel Mason (15.36) advanced. Mason will also race in the 300 hurdles after finishing with a time of 42.75.

The Eaglets’ 4x400 relay team ran a 3:32.23 to qualify for states, while the 4x800 relay team also qualified with a time of 8:32.24.
