MACOMB — Mother Nature apparently did not want high school football played on a second Thursday night in a lot of areas.

One of those areas was Macomb County. One of the many games that were postponed pitted rivals Macomb Dakota and Clinton Township Chippewa Valley against each other.

The game has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. Sept. 4 at Dakota. It was called with 3:27 left in the first quarter.

Things were sloppy early on. Chippewa Valley’s first two drives resulted in turnovers — a fumble recovery and interception by Dakota senior defensive back Tavin Allison.

Dakota’s first two drives ended in sacks — by Chippewa Valley senior defensive linemen Jadin Majewski and Nicco Moroso.

Already a big game, the Cougars and Big Reds played as part of the U.S. Marines Great American Rivalry Series.

Chippewa Valley (1-0) started the season with a big 35-28 win over Lake Orion in the Prep Kickoff Classic. Dakota (1-0) knocked off two-time defending Division 1 state champ Clarkston 35-10.

Dakota and Chippewa Valley have had some battles over the years, including two in 2014 — Dakota won 42-21 in week 2 and Chippewa ended Dakota’s season with a 28-27 win in a district final.

Dakota leads the all-time series 17-7. Dakota is 15-1 vs. Chippewa Valley since 2004.
