United Shore Professional Baseball League asks fans to vote for team names

Professional baseball is coming to Utica next summer and fans have until Aug. 14 to vote on the names for the three teams which will be competing in the United Shore Professional Baseball League.

The “Name the Teams” contest has been narrowed to 12 selections: 59’ers, Beavers, Blue Collars, Diamond Hoppers, Fizz, Mud Pups, Rally Caps, River Rats, Screeching Cicadas, Stags, Steelheads and Unicorns.

Fans are being asked to vote for three team names online at uspbl.com. Voting concludes at 5 p.m. Aug. 14.

The winning team names will be announced at a live reveal ceremony on a future date. Fans submitting the three winning entries will be rewarded with a prize pack for the 2016 season.

The USPBL is scheduled to begin playing games in June 2016 at Jimmy John’s Field, which is under construction on Auburn Road just west of downtown Utica and the Clinton River.
