WARREN — After six seasons away, former Warren De La Salle soccer coach Thaier Mukhtar has returned to guide the program he led for nearly 30 years. De La Salle announced Mukhtar’s return Jan. 19. Mukhtar — who has the second-most wins in state soccer history — coached solely at Fraser High for the past six seasons with the boys and girls programs. He led the Ramblers girls from 2003 to 2017.

CLAIR SHORES - Forward Ben Davidson led all scorers with 18 points as the St. Clair High boys basketball team got a 58-44 Jan. 30 road win over St. Clair Shores Lake Shore to maintain a one-game lead on Warren Woods Tower in the race for the Macomb Area Conference Gold Division title. The Saint (10-4, 7-1 MAC Gold) host Tower at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 in a game that will likely determine the division champ. “That’s the game of the year for us. It’s gonna be a crazy atmosphere,” Davidson said. “We’ll be ready.” A big second half propelled St. Clair to the win over Lake Shore. The Saints outscored the Shorians 35-21 after halftime. The teams were tied 23-23 at the half.
