It’s Week 2.

The week where half of the prep football teams in Michigan with a win can build some momentum, while the other half hope to not put themselves in an early hole.

In this latest installment of Macomb Mashups, we take a look at some squads on both sides of that spectrum.

Thursday night lights

Sterling Heights Parkway Christian (0-1) at Madison Heights Bishop Foley (1-0) — 7 p.m. Sept. 5

Parkway Christian dropped a tough 7-0 decision to Marine City Cardinal Mooney in its opener. Bishop Foley on the other hand, routed Detroit University Prep Science & Math 54-8. The Eagles hope to bounce back and avoid starting 0-2 for the third time in four seasons. The Ventures in their opener topped 40 points for the fifth time in their last seven games dating back to last season. The matchup marks the first-ever meeting between the schools. Parkway Christian tallied 43.3 points per game in 2018, as the team finished the regular season 9-0. Bishop Foley last season put 38.8 points per game on its way to a playoff berth.

Another close call?

Clinton Township Clintondale (1-0) at Warren Fitzgerald (1-0) — 7 p.m. Sept. 6

Clintondale bested Detroit Southeastern 30-8 in Week 1 to win its third straight season opener. Fitzgerald knocked off city rival Warren Lincoln 14-6, giving the Spartans their sixth straight season opening win. Clintondale is 7-6 all-time against Fitzgerald, but the Spartans have won the last four meetings (2014-17) by an average of 7 points per game. See candgnews.com Sept. 6 for a recap.

Other games on our radar

London (Ontario) St. Thomas Aquinas at Warren De La Salle (0-1) — 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at Wayne State University

De La Salle fell 41-7 to Muskegon in its opener. It’s a pretty safe bet the Pilots will win this contest. De La Salle hasn’t started 0-2 since 1967.

Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse (0-1) at Madison Heights Lamphere (0-1) — 7 p.m. Sept. 6

Both L’Anse Creuse and Lamphere won just one game in 2018. The Lancers' lone 'W' came in a 34-13 Week 2 win over the Rams. Lamphere’s only triumph last season came over winless New Haven. A win for either of these teams at this point in the season could go a long way in boosting team morale.
