One of Macomb County’s top defenses will try to stop one of the county’s best running backs in a MAC White clash between Romeo and Utica at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Swinehart Field.

Romeo (2-0, 1-0 White) comes into the Week 3 game having not given up a point through two games. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 47-0 win against Oxford, and then beat Grosse Pointe South 28-0 last week.

Utica running back Kumehnnu Gwilly opened the year with a 392-yard rushing day against Fraser, and then rushed for 227 yards against Utica Ford in Week 2.

Utica (1-1, 0-1 White) knocked off Fraser 41-31 in Week 1, but fell to Ford 28-14.

Having squared off 58 times all together, Utica and Romeo are each other’s most common opponent. Romeo leads the series 34-21-3.

After not playing in the regular season since 2009, Romeo defeated Utica last year 28-0. The Bulldogs have won eight consecutive games against Utica dating back to 2004, including a 2010 pre-district game. Romeo has won those those contests by an average score of 41-11.

Romeo is looking for its first 3-0 start since 2008, while Utica will try to go above .500 after Week 3 for the first time since 2010.

Next week, Utica will host Anchor Bay, while Romeo will travel to Utica Ford.
