WEST BLOOMFIELD — Novi High's volleyball team has advanced to a Class A semifinal with a 3-0 victory against Grosse Pointe North in a quarterfinal matchup Nov. 17 at West Bloomfield High.

The Wildcats face Grand Rapids Christian at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 19 at Kellog Arena in Battle Creek.

Novi came away with victories of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-19.

While North coach Chelsea Brozo would have preferred to be making a trip to Battle Creek, from her perspective, the experience the Norsemen gained could benefit the program next season.

“It should be a good building experience,” she said. “These girls have given 110 percent. They’ve been dedicated to this team. ... I think next year we should be in the same spot. We can make it this far, if not farther.”

Novi came in ranked as the No. 1 team in the state, according to head coach Jen Cotrill. The pressure that comes with that ranking could be serving the program well.

“We’ve gotten everybody’s best all year; we’ve had the pressure,” she said. “We’ve been No. 1 all season, so, we’ve had to deal with it. That’s helped us.”

Katie Snow and Erin Armbruster each had six kills for North, with teammates Mackenzie Simon and Abby Kanakry coming away with five.

North junior Stephanie Roy had 18 digs and 30 serve-reception points, with Lucy Dodge contributing 20 assists and two service-aces.

Ryann Dunkeson, Armbruster, Dodge and Lauren Lesha were North’s senior representatives.

North ended its season with an overall record of 27-11-4.
