MAC’s top volleyball players recognized

METRO DETROIT — Another season has come and gone for the 35 volleyball teams in the Macomb Area Conference.

The MAC has once again named MVPs, Coaches of the Year and Sportsmanship Award winners, in addition to All-League teams.

Following is a listing of all the honorees along with the final division standings.


MAC Red
Utica Eisenhower senior Sam Palazzolo was named league MVP, while her coach, Caitlin LaPratt, earned Coach of the Year honors. Grosse Pointe North took home the Sportsmanship Award.

All-League honorees were Palazzolo, senior Marissa Durand and sophomore Sydney Palazzolo, Eisenhower; senior Katelynn Lodge, and juniors Jenna Schienke and Mackenzie Mertz, Macomb Dakota; senior Ally Konarzewski and junior Emily Snay, Romeo High; junior Khloee Stoll, New Baltimore Anchor Bay; senior Tyler Bieszczad, Marysville High; and senior Evelyn Zacharias, Grosse Pointe North.

Eisenhower went 10-0 to win the MAC Red. Dakota was next at 7-3, followed by Romeo at 6-4, Anchor Bay (5-5), Marysville (1-9) and Grosse Pointe North (1-9).


MAC White
Sterling Heights Stevenson senior Alexis Kopicki and coach Eric Wachterhauser earned MVP and Coach of the Year honors, respectively. Clinton Township Chippewa Valley received the Sportsmanship Award.

All-League honors went to Kopicki, and seniors Abbey Herrmann and Danielle Lamoreaux, Stevenson; juniors Leah Bieniewisz, Kelsey Starnes and Darienne Johnson, Macomb L’Anse Creuse North; senior Charlotte Brecht and freshman Jada Divita, Grosse Pointe South; senior Sarah Wight, Port Huron Northern; junior Alexa Garavaglia, Chippewa Valley; and junior Sydney Jackson, Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse.

Stevenson finished at 9-1 to win the league championship. LCN and Grosse Pointe South tied for second at 7-3, followed by Port Huron Northern (5-5), Chippewa Valley (1-9) and L’Anse Creuse (1-9).


MAC Blue
Fraser High swept the awards in the division. Senior Isabella Grillo was named league MVP, while her coach, Kim Argiri-Slone, earned Coach of the Year honors. The Ramblers also received the Sportsmanship Award.

All-League honorees were Grillo, junior Jessica Pillimonti and sophomore Madison Grace, Fraser; senior Mone Knowles, and juniors Raeleen Sobetski and Abby Rissman, Utica High; juniors Brianne Bayer and Amber Hardy, Utica Ford II; senior Grace Allor, St. Clair Shores Lakeview; senior Emma Hillebrandt, Port Huron High; and junior Allison Federlein, St. Clair Shores Lake Shore.

Fraser went 9-1 to claim the MAC Blue title. Utica High was next at 8-2, followed by Ford (6-4), Lakeview (5-5), Port Huron (1-9) and Lake Shore (1-9).


MAC Gold
Warren Woods Tower senior Mackenzie Nitz scored the league MVP award. St. Clair High’s Michelle Achatz earned the Coach of the Year award, and her team also received the Sportsmanship Award.

All-League honorees were Nitz, and seniors Gabi Erison and Sara Chapman, Tower; seniors Juliana Cataldo, Eve Marion and Elena Cousino, St. Clair; senior Kayla Craig and junior Olivia Jolliffe, Warren Cousino; senior Maia Newberry, Roseville High; junior Elizabeth Coverdill, Marine City High; and senior Astna Hurtado, Sterling Heights High.

Tower finished at 10-0 to win the division championship. St. Clair was next at 8-2, followed by Cousino at 5-5, Roseville (4-6), Marine City (3-7) and Sterling Heights (0-10).


MAC Silver
Madison Heights Lamphere senior Brenna Murphy was named league MVP. St. Clair Shores South Lake’s Chris Blair earned the Coach of the Year award, with South Lake also taking the Sportsmanship Award.

All-League honorees were Murphy, junior Madison Webster and sophomore Ava Wark, Lamphere; seniors Layla Clingman and Faith Brown, and junior Alex Verner, Clawson High; seniors Marcayla Armstrong and Avery Salvia, South Lake; senior Rosie Yang, Center Line High; and seniors Lanie Saroli and Carly Filion, Warren Mott.

Lamphere finished at 10-0 to win the division. Clawson was next at 8-2, followed by South Lake (5-4), Center Line (3-7), Mott (3-6) and Eastpointe High (0-9).


MAC Bronze
New Haven High freshman Maggie Juncaj earned league MVP honors, while her coach, Liz Baade, took home Coach of the Year honors. Madison Heights Madison received the Sportsmanship Award.

All-League honorees were Juncaj, senior Hali Rucker and freshman Dara Capaldi, New Haven; seniors Princess Mia Johnson and Jenna Mathison, Clinton Township Clintondale; senior Melinda Deda, Warren Lincoln; and sophomore Lidiya Salman, Madison.

New Haven went 8-0 to win the league. Clintondale was next at 6-2, followed by Warren Fitzgerald (3-4), Lincoln (2-6) and Madison (0-7).
