After this weekend, we’ll already be a third of the way through the 2018 prep football season.

Time really does fly when you’re having fun.

We’re about to the point in the season where teams know what they have and are reassessing their goals. Is it going to be a long season? Can we win our division? Do we have a shot at making the playoffs?

In this week’s edition of Macomb Mashups, we take a look at teams from all over the spectrum.

St. Clair Shores Lake Shore (1-1) at Warren Fitzgerald  (1-1) — 7 p.m. Sept. 7
Lake Shore and Fitzgerald meet for the 20th time in what’s been a tight series, with the Shorians holding a 10-8-1 edge. The Spartans won the last matchup, in 2015, 39-7. Fitzgerald had made the playoffs a school-record four straight years. Week 3 marks the first Macomb Area Conference Gold Division game for both Lake Shore and Fitzgerald. The Shorians in Week 2 picked up a non-league win over Warren Lincoln, while the Spartans last week fell at Auburn Hills Avondale.

Anchor Bay (2-0) at Macomb Dakota (2-0) — 7 p.m. Sept. 7
Last year, Dakota ended Anchor Bay’s season with a 42-14 decision in the pre-district round. The Cougars hold an 8-2 edge in the series and have won the last four meetings by a combined score of 141-19. The MAC Red is one of the toughest leagues in the state, so an 0-1 start for either team could leave it with a deep hole to climb out of.

Utica High (0-2) at Utica Ford (0-2) — 7 p.m. Sept. 7
Ford is 18-9 all-time against its inter-district foe. Utica High, though, has won two straight. Both teams have had rough starts to the season. The Chieftains have been outscored by 14.5 points per game, while the Falcons have been outscored by 23.5 points per contest. Week 3 marks the first home game of the season for Ford. Emotions could run high for the Falcons and their faithful, as former coach Todd Koehn passed away earlier this summer.
