MAC honors top volleyball players

Another season has come and gone for the 36 volleyball teams in the Macomb Area Conference.

One MAC team, Romeo High, advanced all the way to the Class A state finals before falling to Novi High 3-1.

The MAC coaches have once again named their MVPs, Coaches of the Year and Sportsmanship award winners, in addition to All-League teams.


MAC Red
Romeo senior Gia Milana earned league MVP honors. Romeo coach Stacey Williams was named Coach of the Year, and Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse received the Sportsmanship award.

All-League honorees are Milana, senior Erica LaBaere and junior Jodie Kelly, Romeo; seniors Payton Husson, Devan Valko and Bailey Bowns, Marysville High; junior Mackenzie Kepler and sophomore Anastasia Savich, Macomb Dakota; junior Stephanie Roy, Grosse Pointe North; senior Sarah Hamming, L’Anse Creuse; and junior Brooke Bowerman, Port Huron Northern.

Romeo went 10-0 to win the league title. Marysville was next at 8-2, followed by Dakota and North (5-5), and L’Anse Creuse and Port Huron Northern (1-9).


MAC White
Anchor Bay High sophomore Maria Mallon was named league MVP. Anchor Bay’s Brittany McGinnis and Utica Eisenhower’s Cailtin LaPratt shared Coach of the Year honors. Fraser High received the Sportsmanship award.

All-League honorees are Mallon, senior Hannah Gates and junior Kaela Stoll, Anchor Bay; seniors Anabella Arcan, Jillian Chambers and Katie Hayes, Eisenhower; junior Shannon Carr and senior Ronni Milanowski, Sterling Heights Stevenson; senior Kayli Johnson, Grosse Pointe South; senior Haley Olson, Clinton Township Chippewa Valley; and sophomore Shelby Budnick, Fraser.

Anchor Bay and Eisenhower both finished at 8-2 to share the division title. Stevenson was next at 6-4, followed by South (5-5), Chippewa Valley (3-7) and Fraser (0-10).


MAC Blue
Macomb L’Anse Creuse North senior Kayla O’Malley earned league MVP honors, while her coach, Danielle Sargent, was named Coach of the Year. Port Huron High received the Sportsmanship award.

All-League honorees are O’Malley, sophomore Tori Conklin and senior Hailee Hunt, LCN; juniors Jessica Hodge and Danielle Kaschalk, and senior Gina Duft, Utica High; seniors Adrianna Hayden and Nina Raine, Sterling Heights High; senior Brittany Goodwin, Port Huron; junior Julie Malewicz, Utica Ford II; and junior Mariah Taylor, Warren Mott.

LCN went 9-1 to win the division. Utica was next at 8-2, followed by Sterling Heights (6-4), Port Huron (3-7), Ford II and Mott (2-8).


MAC Gold
Marine City High senior Taelor Frank was named league MVP. Marine City coach Kelly Thomas and St. Clair Shores Lake Shore coach Margaret Kwapicz shared Coach of the Year honors. Warren Woods Tower received the Sportsmanship award.

All-League honorees are Frank, senior Ruthie Polio and junior Paige Tranchida, Marine City; seniors Jenna Pomaville, Paige Hanke and Kennedy Vigliotti, Lake Shore; sophomore Jessica Bohm and senior Kyra Baumgart, St. Clair High; senior Mackenzie Bryant, Warren Cousino; sophomore Samantha Blalock, Tower; and junior Autumn Anderson, Roseville High.

Lake Shore and Marine City both finished at 8-2 to share the division title. St. Clair was next at 4-6, followed by Cousino (4-6), Tower (3-7) and Roseville (1-9).


MAC Silver
St. Clair Shores Lakeview senior Terese Feldpausch earned league MVP honors, and her coach, Tom Pfiefer, was named Coach of the Year. East Detroit High received the Sportsmanship award.

All-League honorees are Feldpausch, senior Emily Haas and junior Bella Fresch, Lakeview; juniors Sydney Hensley and Sarah Barrett, and senior Jaclyn A’Arra, Madison Heights Lamphere; junior Abby Giradout and senior Erin Bracey, Center Line High; senior Bree’Shauna Bester, East Detroit; junior Bethany Wieske, St. Clair Shores South Lake; and freshman Princess Johnson, Clinton Township Clintondale.

Lakeview went 10-0 to win the division. Lamphere was next at 8-2, followed by Center Line and East Detroit (5-5), South Lake (3-7), and Clintondale (0-10).


MAC Bronze
Clawson High senior Rebecca Doray was named league MVP. Her coach, Amy Reaume, earned league Coach of the Year honors. New Haven High received the Sportsmanship award.

All-League honorees are Doray, seniors Hayley Oles and Amy Boldt, and junior Morgan Danhausen, Clawson; seniors Jordan Plair and Olivia Plair, and sophomore Kira Baade, New Haven; senior Elizabeth Zuellig and freshman Carolyn Lee, Warren Fitzgerald; senior Aurorelle Gray, Warren Lincoln; senior Kaylin Stepho, Madison Heights Madison; and junior Donise Jackson, Mount Clemens High.

Clawson went 10-0 to win the division. New Haven was next at 8-2, followed by Fitzgerald (6-4), Lincoln (3-6), Madison (3-7) and Mount Clemens (0-10).
