Local tennis squads take state titles

BIRMINGHAM — Local tennis squads dominated June 1-2 in the state finals.

In Division 2, Birmingham Seaholm took home the title with 34 points, beating out second-place Bloomfield Hills Marian by seven.

It’s the Maples’ fourth state title in seven years.

Flight champions included Greta Albertie (No. 4 singles), Layla Bellissimo and Emily Hirsch (No. 1 doubles), Brooke Forte and Lilly Trinch (No. 2), Jessica Buechner and Lea Cazaudumec (No. 3), and Charlie Kuchman and Sofia Manzo (No. 4).

In D-3, Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day was crowned champ with 38 points. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood finished runner-up with 22.
