Local golfers heading to state finals

With the regional round of the state golf tournament in the books, local golfers have earned their tee times at the state finals June 10-11.

The Division 1 final  is at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University; D-2 heads to Bedford Valley in Battle Creek; and D-3 and D-4 are both on the campus of Michigan State University, playing at Forest Akers East and West, respectively.

Here’s a look at the teams and players that made the cut in their regions. Each team sent out five golfers, with the top four counting toward the team score.

The top three squads in the field and top three players on nonqualifying teams qualified for the finals.

Division 1
At Boulder Pointe

Grand Blanc High took top honors with a 309, and Midland High took second with 314.

Locally, Rochester Adams nabbed the final qualifying spot with a 319.

Individually, Troy High’s Trevor Davis was the only qualifier. He shot a 74, finishing tied for second overall.

At The Orchards
Warren De La Salle won the region, shooting 306, which was four strokes better than second-place Grosse Pointe South and 10 ahead of third-place U of D Jesuit.

Utica Ford II nabbed two of the individual qualifying spots with Owen Tucci and Drew Tucci shooting 75 and 76, respectively. Utica Eisenhower’s Matt Haist was the third qualifier with 77.

At Dunham Hills
Detroit Novi Catholic Central continued its dominant run, as the Oakland County champions won the region with a 295.

Bloomfield Hills High took second with 310, and Birmingham Brother Rice was third with 315, beating Birmingham Seaholm on a tiebreaker for the final qualifying spot.

North Farmington’s Nate Corley made the cut individually, shooting 76.

Division 2
At Calderone Farms

East Lansing High was tops in the field with 293. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep came in second with 302, and Chelsea High finished third with 304.

Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood’s Devin Deogun made the cut individually, shooting a tournament-best 67.

At Willow Metropark
Locally, Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day’s Imaad Qureshi was the lone qualifier, shooting a 74 to win the tournament. 

Division 3
At Atlas Valley

Macomb Lutheran North’s Scott Sparks was the medalist, shooting a 74 and qualifying for the state final as an individual.
