Local boys soccer squads set sights on postseason

STERLING HEIGHTS — Boys soccer teams from across the state are about to embark on the second season.

The playoffs begin Oct. 9 at various sites, with district play. The district playoff round is set for Oct. 9-11 and Oct. 14-19. Regionals take place Oct. 22-26.

The state semifinals will be contested Oct. 30. The Divisions 1-4 state title games will be played Nov. 2 at Comstock Park High and Novi High.

Utica Ford II and Sterling Heights Stevenson will play at a D-1 district hosted by Berkley High. The Falcons open with a quarterfinal against Troy High at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at Troy. The winner gets either Troy Athens or Royal Oak High in a semifinal at 5 p.m. Oct. 15. Stevenson starts the playoffs against Warren Mott in a quarterfinal at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Mott. The survivor gets Berkley in a semi at 7 p.m. Oct. 15. The district final is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 17.

Sterling Heights High, playing in a D-1 district hosted by Warren Cousino, starts the playoffs against Roseville High in a quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at home. The winner advances to meet Warren De La Salle in a semi at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Cousino. The other half of the Cousino bracket includes St. Clair Shores Lake Shore, St. Clair Shores Lakeview, Fraser High and the host. The district final kicks off at 5 p.m. Oct. 18.

Sterling Heights Parkway Christian (D-4) received a bye through the district quarters and will meet either Royal Oak Shrine or Madison Heights Bishop Foley in a semi at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Foley. The other half of the grouping includes Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett and Bloomfield Hills Roeper. The district final is set for 1 p.m. Oct. 19.
