ST. CLAIR SHORES — St. Clair Shores Lake Shore senior pitcher Randy Walton picked up a complete-game win in his team's 4-2 win over city rival St. Clair Shores Lakeview in a Division 1 predistrict game May 26 at Kyte Monroe Memorial Field.

In the win, Walton went all seven innings, scattering three hits, while striking out eight and allowing three walks. The win gave Lake Shore a 4-1 record against Lakeview this season. With the playoff win, Walton has two of those victories.

"I just trusted my defense and threw strikes," Walton said. "I like to work fast, and I feel like my team likes it when I do that, so I just try to throw first-pitch strikes."

Lake Shore (11-10) advances to take on East Detroit High (0-13) in a D-1 district semifinal set for 10 a.m. May 30 at Grosse Pointe North. The other half of the bracket features Roseville High (14-3) and Grosse Pointe North (26-11) in a matchup set for noon May 30 at North. The district final is slated for 2 p.m. May 30 at North.

Lakeview ends the season at 16-18. The five matchups between Lake Shore and Lakeview were decided by a total of 10 runs.

"We knew from having played (Lake Shore) four times that this would be a close game. We knew we would have to hit the ball if we were gonna win today," Lakeview coach Scott McGregor said. "We spent a lot of the day looking at too many strike threes."

The Lake Shore offense helped Walton out early, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Lake Shore's Alex Sudney got the scoring started with an RBI single. Two batters later, Colin Tombs doubled to center field, allowing two runs to score to give Lake Shore an early 3-0 lead.

Lakeview battled back in the third inning, as Hunter Brown and Evan Fennell drove in runs to make it 3-2 Lake Shore after three innings. Lake Shore got an insurance run when Brett Engel hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to drive in the game's final run, putting Lake Shore up 4-2.

"We needed to pitch well right from the get go," Lake Shore coach Gerrit Ketelhut said. "And we had to play a clean game, which we did. We were ready."
