Football Preview: Eastpointe High

The prep football season will be here before you know it.

We are now in our second week of looking at the schedules of nearly 70 prep football teams in our coverage area. As the season draws nearer, we’re giving you a look inside each team’s 2018 slate, including information related to each individual matchup.


Eastpointe High 

at Detroit Loyola (2-6) — 7 p.m. Aug. 25

This is the first meeting between Eastpointe and Loyola. Loyola last season missed the playoffs for the first time since 2007. The Shamrocks last made the playoffs in 2010.

at Clawson High (2-7) – 7 p.m. Aug. 30

Eastpointe knocked off Clawson 26-21 in Week 4 last season. Prior to that, the Shamrocks had dropped four straight in the series. 

vs. Sterling Heights (0-9) — 7 p.m. Sept. 7

Sterling Heights is 9-1 all-time against Eastpointe. The teams last met in 2011. Sterling Heights in 2017 allowed 47.7 points per game.

at Warren Woods Tower (8-3) – 7 p.m. Sept. 14

Eastpointe and Tower last met in 2013, with the Titans winning 36-33. The Shamrocks, though, lead the series 4-3. Tower last season scored the third-most points in a season in program history.

vs. Marine City High (8-3) — 7 p.m. Sept. 21

This is the second straight matchup for Eastpointe against a 2017 playoff qualifier. The Shamrocks are 1-5 against the Mariners and have lost three straight by at least 27 points.

at St. Clair Shores Lake Shore (4-5) — 7 p.m. Sept. 28

Eastpointe and Lake Shore last met in 2015, with the Shorians winning 44-26. Lake Shore leads the series 3-1. The Shamrocks last finished above .500 in 2010.

vs. Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse (1-8) — 7 p.m. Oct. 5

Eastpointe is 4-7 all-time against L’Anse Creuse. The Shamrocks won the last meeting, in 2009, 27-19. The Lancers allowed 39.8 points per game in 2017, while Eastpointe put up 21.8 points per contest.

vs. Warren Fitzgerald (7-3) — 7 p.m. Oct. 12

The series between Eastpointe and Fitzgerald began in 2008 and the teams have met every year since. The Spartans hold a 7-3 edge and have won the last three matchups by 40 points per game.

at Roseville High (6-4) — 7 p.m. Oct. 19

This will be the first season since 2009 that Eastpointe and Roseville don’t face off in Week 1. The Panthers won last year’s matchup 34-14, giving them their 12th straight win in the series.
