There’s a lot on the line for a number of prep football teams this weekend.

Several teams are looking for wins to either secure playoff spots or improve their chances of getting an at-large bid into the postseason.

According to the MHSAA, for football, postseason inclusion is determined by wins and a computer point value, calculated for each team based upon its record and strength of schedule, with the top 256 teams (including all teams with six victories if playing a nine-game schedule) qualifying. These 256 teams are then ordered by enrollment and divided into eight divisions of 32 teams each. That means there are teams that could qualify for the postseason with 5-4 records if they played a strong schedule.

Eight Macomb County or Macomb Area Conference football teams have already locked up postseason berths. Nine teams are going after win No. 6 this weekend, while five more are after a fifth win, which would keep them alive for an at-large berth.

In a special Five for Friday, we’re including all the games featuring Macomb County and MAC teams that remain alive in the playoff race.

The postseason begins Oct. 30. The state finals are set for Nov. 27-28 at Ford Field.

The postseason field will be released Oct. 25. Check www.candgnews.com that night for details on playoff matchups. Check back the night of Oct. 23 to see which of the teams listed will still have a shot at the playoffs.
