Farmington-area squads earn district crowns

FARMINGTON/FARMINGTON HILLS — North Farmington softball captured a Division 1 district championship June 2 at home. 

It’s the second district title in program history.

In the final, the Raiders beat Livonia Stevenson 4-2. Sam Cherney was credited with the win. She pitched a complete game with six strikeouts. She also helped her own cause with a home run and three RBIs.

In the semifinal, the Raiders beat Farmington Hills Mercy 10-3. Cherney went the distance in the circle with three strikeouts. Mara Sczecienski and Ella O’Neill led the way at the plate with three hits and three RBIs each. 

The Raiders are 22-9 overall and take on South Lyon High in a regional semifinal at 10 a.m. June 9 at Novi High.

In baseball, Farmington High won a D-1 crown after beating Novi 2-0 June 2 at North Farmington. The Falcons will play Northville High at a time to be determined June 9 at Novi.
