DETROIT –– The PGA Tour is headed back to Michigan, and Detroit will play host to some of the world’s best golfers.

From June 25 to 30, the Detroit Golf Club will host the Rocket Mortgage Classic, looking to provide a challenge before many of the players head off to the British Open in July.

“We’re very fortunate to be working with the PGA Tour on the latest agronomy standards and setup of the golf course, which I think will be a great test of golf,” Detroit Golf Club President Andy Glassberg said.

Several top golfers will be taking part in the tournament, including Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Bubba Watson and Kevin Kisner, among others.

The event is still working to land more top names, including Tiger Woods. Over the next few weeks, more names will continue to be announced.

Right now, everyone involved is excited about the field of players and is looking forward to seeing them play in Detroit for the first time.

For the city of Detroit, being able to host a PGA tournament allows people to enter the city and see what it has to offer.

“Bringing these type of significant events to the city helps shine a light on all the great things that are happening here, the great people that live here, and that’s really what’s most important to us,” Quicken Loans CEO Jay Farner said.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic has some unique events planned for fans and players, but “Area 313” is a spot for intense competition on the course and fun behind the ropes.

The area consists of three holes: the par-5 14th, par-3 15th and par-4 16th. The first golfer to record scores of 3, 1, 3, the area code of Detroit, on those three holes throughout the week will earn a $313,000 donation to several local nonprofit partners and a charity of the golfer’s choice.

For fans, Area 313 gives them a unique view of the action. The location allows fans to watch professional golfers make key decisions on the three holes while they chase money for charity.

“Area 313 promises to be the newest, (most) exciting three-hole stretch on the PGA Tour,” Executive Director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic Jason Langwell said. “Many other events have a signature hole and stadium-like experiences. This is a three-hole stretch. No other event on tour has this type of a condensed epicenter where people will be able to not even turn their head and see two or three of the most important shots in all of it.”
