The boys soccer teams from Clinton Township Chippewa Valley and Fraser High each had their respective seasons come to a close at a Division 1 district playoff tournament hosted by Utica Ford II.

Utica High beat Chippewa 3-1 in a semifinal Oct. 18.

The Big Reds advanced after beating Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse 2-1 Oct. 16 in the first round.
Chippewa finished its season at 6-5-6 overall and 3-3-4 in the Macomb Area Conference Red Division.

Chippewa coach Gerry Haggarty shared some thoughts about his team’s season.

“I think we played pretty hard,” he said. “Overall, I think we had a pretty good year. … (We) graduated quite a few guys. … Hopefully younger guys will step up with the experience they got this year and keep us competitive for next year.”

In the opening round, Ford beat Fraser 2-1 Oct. 16.

The Falcons won in penalty kicks.

The Ramblers finished at 8-10-4 overall and 1-7-2 in the MAC Red.

“I think all but one or two games we had a chance to win every single game,” said Fraser coach Thaier Mukhtar. “First losing (season) I’ve ever had as a coach for the boys program. … I believe our play was a lot better than our record indicated.”
