FERNDALE — Ferndale High senior running back Anthony Garland knew that one day the countless hours of work would pay off.

That day came Feb. 2, when he signed his National Letter of Intent to play for Central Michigan University.

Garland finished his senior campaign by breaking the school’s single-season rushing total (1,941 yards). His 3,050 career-yards total is the most in at least 60 years at the school.

“It was a little surprising, but the hard work showed and accumulated into what I did,” Garland said.

WARREN — For Warren De La Salle seniors Cody Knoll and Mike Keith, heading to college will not be as big of a culture shock as it is for most students.

The duo — along with Armada resident Lyle VanFleteren, who sign with Siena Heights University — inked National Letters of Intent to play football at Northwood University and extended a legacy that started when they were teammates on their sixth-grade team at St. Anne.
