Last season’s record: 4-5
League: Catholic High School League Intersectional 1
Returning starters: Seven
First game: 11 a.m. Aug. 30 vs. Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes at Wisner Stadium
Offensive keys:
In 2018, Liggett put up 161 points, which was an improvement from the 117 it scored in 2017.

This year, a boost for Liggett will be having the entire offensive line returning, as well as the team’s quarterback.

Knights coach Dan Cimini said he will look to those players to be leaders for his team.

“I think our offense will be able to stay in motion and do the things that we’re supposed to do,” Cimini said.
Defensive keys:
Like the offense, Liggett saw improvement from the defense in 2018. After allowing opponents to score 312 points in 2017, the Knights held foes to 232 last year.

For Cimini, experience will play a key role for his team, but he also likes the youth of his group.

The coach added that staying healthy and getting better each day would be key to having a successful season.

“We have a lot more senior leadership. We have really good freshmen coming in that have played football before, so just a lot more intensity. I expect a lot better things out of our defense,” Cimini said.

Coach’s outlook:
Liggett’s last time in the state playoffs came back in 2016, but Cimini believes this group has the potential to get back.

“I expect our team to go out there and win and push to make the playoffs this year,” Cimini said.
